Alan has been chosen as one of the finalists for the Golden Poo Awards on November 8th. The competition, set up in part to raise awareness of global sanitation issues, will be held at the Bedford Pub in Balham, South London and is hosted by the legendary Arthur Smith. Ten comics from across the country have been selected to perform a scatologically related routine in an attempt to proclaim themselves the king of toilet humour. Tickets are available from the website.
Dave Television published their annual list of the ten funniest jokes at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe yesterday, and one of the jokes from Alan’s show Hate It With Me was listed in the number seven spot, on a list that included jokes from some of comedy’s biggest names, including Sarah Millican, Tim Vine, Andrew Lawrence and Mark Watson. Top spot on the list went to Nick Helm.
The joke in question, slightly misworded in Dave’s version, when performed by Alan is “I used to be in a band. We called ourselves Prevention because we wanted people to say we were better than The Cure.”
Says Alan, “I was quite surprised, but pleasantly so, to see myself on the list with such great names. It’s always been my favourite joke in my set. The downside is that it is appearing in all the papers now, so after the Fringe is over I’ll probably have to retire it as everyone will have heard it. Nonetheless, after finding out, it put a spring in my step for the rest of the day.”
Alan’s second full length, hour long solo Edinburgh Fringe show will be presented from August 6th to 27th this year at the Banshee Labyrinth in Niddry Street, Edinburgh at 9.45pm each evening. The provisional title for the show is “Hate It With Me” and will continue on from last year’s vitriolic stream of complaints about the world in general. Keep an eye out for previews around the country from June onwards.
Alan recently appeared on the ITV4 telelvision series FHM Stand Up Hero. Featuring in the third programme of the six part series, the show was first broadcast on November 9th and featured Alan performing a five minute stand up set, as well as being interviewed by Brendon Burns. Other acts appearing on the show were Liam Mullone, Jeremy O’Donnell, Sam Gore and Nabil Abdulrashid.
