Harry Potter’s Edinburgh
This one and a half hour tour takes you around some of the sights and tells you some of the stories that are said to have inspired JK Rowling as she sat in the cafes of Edinburgh creating the world’s favourite teenage wizard. You will hear stories of witches and wizards, see the school said to have inspired Hogwarts, wander through winding alleyways and creepy graveyards, all in the company of a guide who bears a striking resemblance to a certain giant groundskeeper. If you are interested in this tour as an individual rather than a group, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for prices.
On this two-hour tour you will see many of the sights of the Royal Mile while being told stories of the three royal houses that made Edinburgh their capital city; the Canmore Kings of the House of Dunkeld beginning with David I who laid the city out in its familiar form, the Bruce who led Scotland through its most turbulent times, and the Stuarts, who brought murder and intrigue to the city streets, and who provided Edinburgh with two of her more colourful nobles, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Edinburgh’s Places and Faces
On this two-hour tour, you will be led through both old and new towns, learning about some of the famous folk who have made the city their home; Robert Burns, Robert Louis Stevenson, Adam Smith, Arthur Conan-Doyle, Charles Darwin, James Connelly, right through to the present day with J.K.Rowling. As we wander the streets they walked and see the places they lived, you will hear about the golden age of the city, the Scottish Enlightenment.
Edinburgh’s Dark Past
On this two-hour tour you will travel through dark alleys and back passages where horror lurks around every corner. Here you will encounter witches and wizards, ghosts and ghouls, murderers and arsonists, the dreadful Edinburgh Mob, and those infamous rogues Burke and Hare. This is not a tour for the faint hearted, but then, the real Edinburgh never was.
The Great Big Edinburgh Tour
This four-hour tour combines the best stories from each of these three tours and ensures you get the best possible experience from your visit.
Alan’s two-hour tours cost £50 for a group of up to 10 people, and a further £2.50 for each member of the group above that number.

The following are a selection of reviews of Alan’s tours left on the Tripadvisor website:
Chezlg – Melbourne, Australia – “We had Alan as our guide and he was brilliant especially with his portrayal of history and enthusiastic displays with every story he told.”
Tulsa307 – Fort Collins, Colorado – “My brief time in Edinburgh was by far one of the best days of my trip, and there’s no doubt that Alan is the reason I can say that. Not to short change the amazing city of Edinburgh, but there’s just no way I would have been able to capture the historical and present day sentiments of this beautiful place without Alan’s commentary, jokes, animation and his awesome knowledge of history. He’s fun, full of energy, super smart, and just has the kind of personality that you want to be around.”
Weejock100 – Larkhall (nr Glasgow) – “Although we only stay forty odd miles away our guide Alan gave us a lot of info about Edinburgh and its history. Made our weekend.”
Lanslide3 – Vancouver, Canada – “Alan, you were great man! This is such a great way to get yourself familiar with a city if you are visiting for the first time.”
